Floatin'
Down
Lyrics
by Donald R. Weber
Yeah, I used to fly jumpers you know
Those crazies who'd always show up late and pull too
low
They'd come up with any idea to put on a show
Picnics, ball games, weddings, funerals and such
Me and my old 180 would stay on the go
But I'll
always remember one guy who took jumpin' to heart
He packed and rigged, loaded and shoved, and changed
the plugs
But he never really seemed to be the family sort
Sort of ran wild cussin' and hollerin' most of the time
Scarin' hell out of everybody, talkin' bout jumpin'
and dyin'
And how life and death was just a ripcord apart
So most stayed
down when I took him up
Cause from the door you could hear him cuss
What the hell, you gone blind? Don't you see that streamer
out there behind?
Left turn, right turn, bring her around
Sometimes I'd swear I'd kill 'em when I got on the ground
Except those
days at Christmas time
When he'd put on that red suit and we went flyin'
Looking for shopping centers and little kids cryin'
He'd pull
so low over those wires
Just that ole PC puffin' down
All you could hear was those kids runnin' and that jingle
bell sound
My heart in my throat, my engine idlin'
I'd sit there lookin' while he came floatin' down, floatin'
down
They knew Santa Claus had come to town
Well, that
crazy fool would be there all mornin'
Kissin' and huggin' and wipin' tears
Watchin' those kids pull at his rig, askin' with a frown
How he come to be a jumper and flyin' around
And did he want some candy or know their doll's name
And did he know when he was comin' again
With that old red suit floatin' down
Well, I'm
talkin' bout that guy who had jumpin' at heart
No he didn't seem to be the family sort
Always talkin' bout jumpin' and dyin'
And how life and death was a ripcord apart
Except at Christmas time when we went flyin'
Lookin' for shopping centers and little kids cryin'
And he came
floatin' down
And he came floatin' down
They knew Santa Claus had come to town
Merry Christmas
